Scholarship Opportunity
Landing an athletic scholarship isn’t all about being the best basketball player, wrestler or football player on your high school team anymore. There are many awards available for athletes who play not to make a career of sport, but because they enjoy the game.
Local leagues and organizations in sports like baseball and golf, for example, offer many scholarships just for playing on a team, no matter how good you are. Sure, it helps to be talented in each area, but if you’re not cut out for the lifestyle required to make you a marketable athlete at the top level of play, don’t be discouraged.
You don’t even have to play on your college’s team. Many rewards out there require only an interest in a sport and your intention to continue playing it when you go to college, even if it’s on a club or intramural team. Check out our examples of school-based and sports scholarships from outside organizations. Don’t rule out academic scholarships when applying for funding, as you won’t be playing on the team if you can’t pay tuition.
First Choice Athlete has heard from countless numbers of athletes on how they wish they were made aware of the recruitment process from start to finish. Most athletes have no idea how it works, when it starts or how to better their position within this process. We will assist you and your family with all aspects of recruitment, from recruitment letters, phone calls from coaching staff, college visits and lastly commitments.
There are over 1,000,000 boys/girls High School basketball players in the United States. There are over 900,000 High School football players. Over 425,000 baseball/softball players. Over 300,000 soccer players. YET only 401,000 students receive scholarships combined! That’s less than 16% of our student athletes who are receiving scholarship money in total. Wouldn’t it be nice to have First Choice Athlete start the process of having your child recruited next? Our team of recruiters would like your student athlete to not be another number or statistic but an actual recipient of a scholarship!

Scholarship requirements:
The criteria for receiving an academic scholarship are usually quite clear. Typically, they are based on achieving a certain GPA and standardized test score, and they might ask for an essay.
To receive an athletic scholarship, the criteria are less black and white, as college coaches have different requirements based on roster needs and division level.
Number of scholarships:
The number of athletic scholarships available and the way they are given out depends on the particular sport and division level. The majority of sports are equivalency sports, in which coaches have a certain number of scholarships that they can divide up however they want.
Higher value recruits will get more money, while lower-level recruits will get less.
Academic Scholarship Limit:
Most academic scholarships will be partial scholarships, paying for a portion of a student’s tuition and fees.
However, there is no limit to how many academic scholarships one student can receive, and just a few partial scholarships can add up.
Recruiting & Academics
Separate Yourself... To obtain a sports scholarship, strong athletic performance and a solid academic record are both crucial. While athletic talent is the primary focus, meeting minimum academic standards (GPA, standardized test scores) and demonstrating a commitment to academics is essential for eligibility.
Combining athletic and academic scholarships is a great way
Did You Know? Most athletic scholarships are guaranteed for one year and must be renewed by the athlete and the coach every year. If athletes are injured, not contributing to the team enough, struggling to maintain their grades, etc., they can lose their scholarship.
